THE TLHOLEGO MAKE WELL WITH A WELL CAMPAIGN
Goal: Raise R120,000, cost of one drilled and equipped well in one month.
Tlholego | Creation with Nature
Tlholego Eco-Village and Learning Centre is a unique educational community, near Rustenburg in the North-West Province of South Africa. The village promotes local livelihoods through land restoration and lifelong learning rooted in inclusive, sustainable and innovative communities.
Water is the source of life
We cannot think about developing our potential if we fail to ensure access to water.
Less than 100 years ago, the land on the western slopes of the Magaliesberg mountains where Tlholego is located, were home to many natural springs and a healthy ecology supporting climax grasslands, mega fauna and our own ancient ancestry.
Water predicament
Sadly however, land degradation continues to deepen in these vast dryland regions, increasing risk of floods, drought and ongoing decline of groundwater resources. Central to Tlholego’s development mission is the restoration of these lands through ongoing rainwater harvesting and revegetation programs. Until these strategies are implemented on a large enough scale, we must continue to prospect for new short term water sources.
Drilling new wells is the main way of harnessing water in the short term
Our reality is that more often than not, the clean water a developing community needs is right underneath their feet. And it’s amazing how a relatively small investment can make such a dramatic difference in so many lives. Drilling and equipping a new well is a transformational solution to providing running water immediately.
